March 5, 2026 – Chariton Valley partnered with Northeast Power through the Co-ops in Action program to assist AVENUES, a domestic violence and sexual assault outreach organization serving survivors across Northeast Missouri. The March 5th volunteer project focused on organizing and sorting multiple rooms filled with donated items, an effort that will greatly improve daily operations for AVENUES staff and volunteers.
AVENUES provides critical services to individuals who have experienced trauma due to domestic violence or sexual assault, offering resources, advocacy, and support across several counties. Donated clothing, household items, and supplies are essential to their mission; however, the volume of these items can make organization challenging.
To help streamline their process, Co-ops in Action volunteers worked to sort, categorize, and reorganize the donations. This effort will enable AVENUES to clearly identify what supplies are available, determine what items are needed, locate items for clients more efficiently, and responsibly re-donate or dispose of goods not suitable for their programs.

Rose Ghattas, AVENUES Board President, expressed her appreciation for the support. “Avenues is so appreciative of the time and effort given by these two organizations! Organizing our supplies and donations is a key component to our continued stabilization, especially as we complete our phase to study in an effort to rebuild a new shelter. Until that time, Avenues serves the community with outreach and advocacy services. We can always be reached through our hotline number 24 /7.”
Founded in 2017, Co-ops in Action brings local cooperatives together to serve their communities through hands-on volunteerism. While both organizations participate, Chariton Valley remains a driving force in project coordination and community engagement, continuing its long-standing commitment to supporting local organizations and building stronger communities throughout the region.
Community groups interested in being considered for a future Co-ops in Action project can apply through a community request process. A committee reviews applications quarterly, selecting projects based on community impact and feasibility. The host organization provides materials, while cooperative volunteers supply the labor and teamwork to complete the project.
Chariton Valley is currently accepting applications for remaining 2026 Co-ops in Action projects, and organizations are encouraged to apply while openings are still available. Interested groups can learn more and submit an application at www.cvalley.net.
