JACKSONVILLE, MO – October 10, 2023 – Chariton Valley (CV) and Macon Electric Cooperative (MEC) completed renovations at the Jacksonville City Park recently as the latest project for their ‘cooperative’ program,‘Co-ops in Action.’

Employee volunteers from both cooperatives worked together to apply water sealant to the stage floor, add siding to a nearby building to make it more secure and visually appealing, clean and organize the concession building, and refurbish a picnic table all in time for the first annual Jacksonville Fall Festival to be held Saturday, October 14^th.

“Thank you to the dedicated Co-ops in Action for their hard work. I really appreciate their time and the effort spent on our city park,” stated Larry Coles, Jacksonville Mayor.

“Co-ops in Action is a program that allows us to give back and work with our neighboring cooperative. As we came together to finish this project in time for Jacksonville’s big event, we could feel the enthusiasm and community spirit in the air,” stated Daren Dowell, Chariton Valley’s PR & Economic Development Consultant.

The Co-ops in Action partnership began in 2017 with the common goal of working together to improve the lives of the communities the cooperatives serve. Employee volunteers from both cooperatives assist community organizations with various projects. The projects are selected through a request process in which community groups apply to have work completed for their organization. A committee reviews the applications quarterly and selects projects to complete based on feasibility and impact on the community. During the volunteer workday, the organization provides the materials needed for the project, and the cooperatives provide the labor.
