HUNTSVILLE, MO – January 29, 2026 – Chariton Valley Telephone Cooperative is proud to announce that Elena Kertz, daughter of Nick and Whitney Kertz of Clifton Hill, has been chosen to participate in an exclusive, all‑expenses‑paid trip to Washington, D.C., made possible through Chariton Valley Telephone Cooperative and the Foundation for Rural Service.
Elena, an outstanding high school junior, received the news of her selection during Ms. Holly Wooldridge’s Spanish class, where Chariton Valley representatives made a surprise entrance to share the exciting news. The unexpected announcement created a memorable moment for Elena and highlighted the significance of her outstanding achievement.
“It’s a great honor to be able to go on this trip, and I’m very excited to represent Chariton Valley, Westran, and Missouri in Washington D.C. this summer!” said Elena.
Representing Chariton Valley, Elena will join more than 100 students from rural communities across the country in June. Participants will explore Washington, D.C., gain firsthand insight into legislative and governmental processes and visit iconic sites such as the Lincoln Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery and the Smithsonian museums.
