Working remotely from home is more than a passing trend. For millions of people, it’s now a way of life, with some estimates putting the percentage of Americans working from home at 26 percent of the workforce! And in some cases, more than one person in a home is teleworking.
If you’re a remote worker, you probably compete for the internet daily. Your children may have online classes, enjoy gaming or stream movies regularly, all of which push your internet service to the limit. That’s why it’s important to have a fast and reliable internet connection.
Fiber internet offers high speeds and generous bandwidth for effective video conferencing and sharing large files even when others are online. Plus, it’s very reliable with significantly less service interruptions and downtime than other internet services.
Fiber internet is hands down the most important tool in the work-from-home tool kit. If you’re not a fiber internet customer, sign up for the service, then optimize it with the three tips below to create the ideal work-from-home experience. Contact Chariton Valley to learn more about our fiber service*.
Quality Wi-Fi Router
Although fiber internet is both extremely fast and loaded with bandwidth capacity, you still need to effectively disperse the internet signal through your home.
Some service providers deploy subpar routers (or none at all) that lack the updated technology needed to keep up with fiber’s power. Wi-Fi 6 is the most recently engineered Wi-Fi technology. This upgraded equipment can greatly increase internet performance and capacity, allowing Wi-Fi speeds to exceed one gigabit or more per second. An outdated router is not a concern for Chariton Valley’s fiber customers. All our internet plans include the latest equipment plus managed Wi-Fi for quick troubleshooting and problem solving should an issue arise.
Strategic Router Placement
Even with a Wi-Fi 6 router, you still need good router placement.
To avoid interference of the Wi-Fi signal, avoid placing your router near objects, including but not limited to walls, cabinets, and other electronic equipment. Also raise the height of the router’s position so that it can transmit a stronger signal.
Device Prioritization
Device prioritization is key when you work from home and others are taking down your bandwidth. Chariton Valley fiber customers can add ExperienceIQ®** for just $5 per month! This robust feature allows you to prioritize traffic by activity, optimize bandwidth by device, set priority schedules and more in our free CV CommandIQ app so your work takes precedence.
At Chariton Valley we want to ensure working from home isn’t way too much work! We’re local and happy to work with you to ensure your internet works great in your home office and beyond!
