HANNIBAL, MO — November 5, 2025 —Chariton Valley and Northeast Power joined forces to make a positive impact in the Hannibal community through their cooperative program, Co-ops in Action. Established in 2017, this ongoing initiative brings cooperatives together to dedicate time and resources toward projects that benefit the communities they serve.
On Thursday, October 30, volunteers from both organizations gathered at Douglass Community Services to paint the facility’s stairwell, brightening and revitalizing the space for community members, staff, and volunteers. The effort is part of the Co-ops in Action mission to support local organizations and foster community pride through hands-on service.
“Through Co-ops in Action, we have the opportunity to work side by side and make a visible difference where it matters most,” said Kaylie Teter, Community Affairs Coordinator at Chariton Valley. “Douglass Community Services provides essential support to so many people in the area, and we’re proud to contribute to their welcoming environment.”

Community groups interested in being considered for a future Co-ops in Action project can apply through a community request process. A committee reviews applications quarterly, selecting projects based on their community impact and feasibility. The host organization provides materials, while the cooperatives contribute the volunteer labor and enthusiasm to get the job done.
All 2025 projects are currently scheduled, but applications for 2026 Co-ops in Action projects are now being accepted. Interested organizations can learn more and apply at www.cvalley.net.
