United Way Co-ops in Action ProjectFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

April 11, 2025 – The electric cooperatives and Chariton Valley (CV) share a strong partnership through their “cooperative” program, Co-ops in Action. Launched in 2017, Co-ops in Action was created with the goal of working together to improve the lives of the people they serve. Now in its 8th year, the quarterly work projects are still going strong. Employees from both organizations regularly join forces to assist a community group in need.

Most recently, Co-ops in Action completed a project for the United Way of the Mark Twain Area in Hannibal. Crews came together to refresh and paint the organization’s boardroom, as well as the adjoining hallway and stairway. Volunteers removed outlet covers and carefully taped off the boardroom to prepare it for painting, helping ensure a clean, professional finish.

“We are so grateful to the electric cooperatives and Chariton Valley for stepping up and helping us tackle this project,” said Denise Damron, Executive Director of the United Way of the Mark Twain Area. “Their support helps us be more effective in serving our community, and their willingness to lend a hand shows what true partnership looks like.”

“We’re proud to give back and be part of something that truly makes a difference,” said Allie Bennett, Manager of Economic Development at Northeast Power. “It’s always inspiring to work alongside others who care deeply about our communities.”

“Chariton Valley is committed to strengthening our local communities,” added Donna Bell, PR & Economic Development Manager. “By partnering through Co-ops in Action, we’re creating lasting, positive change—one project at a time.”

Community groups interested in applying for a 2025 project can visit www.cvalley.net to learn more and submit a request. A committee reviews applications quarterly and selects projects based on community impact and feasibility. On project day, the organization supplies materials, and the cooperatives provide the volunteer labor.
