FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
ATLANTA, MO – January 24, 2025 – Chariton Valley Telephone Cooperative announced Friday Cooper Nelson, son of Justin and Crystal Nelson of Atlanta, was selected for the company-sponsored, all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C. in conjunction with the Foundation for Rural Service.
“My heart is still pounding from being selected!” stated Cooper. “I had been wondering for the past two days if I was going to get it. I was about to start driving myself crazy. When we had an assembly and I saw my parents and the Chariton Valley employee, it clicked in my mind that I had won it, and I had never been so excited before.
I am beyond grateful for this opportunity, and I am so glad that you all
considered me for this trip. I know that I will treasure this forever,” he concluded.
Cooper will represent Chariton Valley Telephone Cooperative at our nation’s capital June 2 – 6, 2025, and be joined by more than 100 other high school juniors from across the United States.
Cooper will see the nation’s capital and experience first-hand the legislative and governmental processes. He will network with peers from other rural communities and visit some of the country’s most historic sites and monuments, including the Lincoln Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, the Smithsonian Museum and more.
“By making this opportunity available to the youth of our community every year we hope to inspire leaders who will make a difference in our communities and in our world. Congratulations, Cooper!” said Ryan Johnson, Chariton Valley’s President and Chief Executive Officer.
