MACON, MO – May 14, 2026 — Chariton Valley is strengthening its commitment to customers and communities by helping seniors stay safe in an increasingly digital world. Following a successful Senior Safety Class held Wednesday, May 13, at the Macon Senior Center, Chariton Valley continues to expand its efforts to educate older adults on how to protect themselves online.
The free Senior Safety Classes focus on essential online safety topics including creating strong passwords, recognizing phishing attempts, and understanding data breaches. The goal is to help seniors safeguard their personal information and avoid scams that can have serious financial and emotional impacts.
“Our customers and community members trust us, and we take that responsibility seriously,” said Kaylie Teter, Community Affairs Coordinator. “These classes are about empowerment giving seniors the tools and confidence they need to stay safe online.”
In addition to the Macon Senior Center session, Chariton Valley has already hosted Senior Safety Classes at the Long Branch Area YMCA and Salisbury Public Library, reaching seniors across multiple communities. The sessions have generated thoughtful discussion, with attendees actively participating, asking questions, and sharing real‑world examples of scams or close calls experienced by themselves or loved ones.
Many attendees expressed gratitude and appreciation for the sessions, noting how valuable the information is in helping them feel more confident navigating email, websites, and online accounts.
Due to the positive response, Chariton Valley plans to continue offering Senior Safety Classes throughout the year. Additional classes are being scheduled, including an upcoming session in Hannibal, Missouri, with more details to be announced soon. Community members are encouraged to watch for future class opportunities coming to their area.
