DEWITT, MO — July 16, 2025 — Chariton Valley has donated $4,500 to the DeWitt Community Club to help fund critical repairs to the town’s only community building, a vital space used for reunions, showers, funeral dinners, city council meetings and as a polling location.
Last year, Norma Sparks, DeWitt City Clerk, applied for the Foundation for Rural Services (FRS) grant to address urgent needs of the Community Building. While the grant wasn’t awarded, the building still requires updates, including restroom and hall lighting, two AC units, a refrigerator and an electric wall heater to protect kitchen pipes in winter.
“This is more than just a building—it’s where life happens in DeWitt,” said Donna Bell, Public Relations & Economic Development Manager at Chariton Valley. “We’re honored to support the people of DeWitt and help ensure this space continues to serve the community.”
Sparks added, “This building is the heart of our town. It’s where we gather, vote, celebrate and support one another. My husband and I [Bill Sparks, Mayor of DeWitt] put in countless hours to make this a better
place to live and are so very grateful to Chariton Valley for stepping up to help
us make improvements for our whole community.”
A check presentation was held Wednesday, July 16 at the DeWitt Community Building with many DeWitt Community Club Members in attendance, including President Mary Jenkins, Secretary Bille Gay White, Treasurer Jesse Lybarger, Members Anita Brown, Norma Sparks, Nancy Lybarger and Bill Jackson. Chariton Valley employees in attendance were Telephone Business Manager Lee Greathouse, Administrative Assistant Becky Brockman and Combination I/R Technician Jordan Harter.
