MACON, MO – May 19, 2026 — Chariton Valley and Macon Electric Cooperative continued their strong partnership through their collaborative community outreach initiative, Co-ops in Action, with a service project held Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
Launched in 2017, the Co-ops in Action program brings together employees from both cooperatives to complete quarterly service projects that support organizations and strengthen the communities they serve.
As part of this quarter’s initiative, volunteers gathered at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville to clean headstones in preparation for Memorial Day. The project serves as a meaningful way to honor the men and women who have served and sacrificed for our country.
The Missouri Army National Guard contributed to the day’s efforts by providing valuable support throughout the project. Their involvement highlights the importance of working together to pay tribute to those who have served.
“Memorial Day is a time to honor the courage and sacrifice of the men and women who served our country,” said Rebecca Miller, Manager of Marketing and Communications at Macon Electric Cooperative. “By cleaning headstones at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, we help preserve their memory and show our gratitude for the freedoms they fought to protect.”

Co-ops in Action projects are selected through a quarterly request process in which local organizations can apply for assistance. A committee reviews applications and selects projects based on community impact and feasibility. The host organization provides materials, while cooperative volunteers contribute their time and labor to complete each project.
