Built for This MomentEvery October, National Co-op Month recognizes the important role cooperatives play in the communities they serve. This year’s theme, Built for This Moment, celebrates a business model created to bring people together to meet shared needs and respond to challenges. The 2026 campaign highlights the enduring relevance of cooperatives and the role they continue to play in communities across the country.

For Chariton Valley Telephone Cooperative, that theme has particular meaning. For almost 75 years, Chariton Valley has worked to enhance rural prosperity and quality of life by providing communications services to the communities we serve. Today, that commitment continues as reliable connectivity plays an increasingly important role in how people work, learn, communicate and stay connected.

A Model Designed Around Members

What sets a cooperative apart is its structure. A cooperative exists to serve its members, placing their needs at the center of its mission.

The cooperative model has a long history of addressing needs within communities. This year’s National Co-op Month campaign points to rural broadband as one example, recognizing cooperatives that deliver essential broadband infrastructure to rural America.

For Chariton Valley, providing connectivity is about more than technology. It is about helping connect the people, businesses and communities that call rural Missouri home.

Rooted in Community

Cooperatives have always been closely connected to the communities they serve. That connection is reflected in one of the seven cooperative principles, Concern for Community, which emphasizes working for the sustainable development of communities.

At Chariton Valley, that cooperative spirit extends beyond the services we provide. Supporting local organizations, contributing to community initiatives and investing in the places our members call home are all ways we remain connected to the communities we serve.

Built for Today and Tomorrow

The needs of rural communities have changed considerably over the years, and technology will continue to reshape how people connect with one another and the world around them. But the cooperative model remains centered on something that hasn’t changed: people working together toward a common purpose.

That is what makes Built for This Moment especially fitting for National Co-op Month. The theme reflects both the history of cooperatives and their continued role in responding to the needs of the communities they serve.

For Chariton Valley Telephone Cooperative, that means continuing to provide the connections our members rely on while remaining committed to the communities we are proud to call home.

This October, National Co-op Month is an opportunity to celebrate the cooperative difference and the members who make it possible.
