Chariton Valley celebrates the Brunswick community on being designated as a Smart Rural Community! Congratulations Brunswick!

BRUNSWICK, MO – November 18, 2025 – Chariton Valley celebrated Brunswick’s designation as a Smart Rural Community℠ (SRC) today at Kaitlynn’s Deli & Ice Cream Shop. The SRC program is a national network recognizing rural communities that leverage advanced broadband to create new opportunities and strengthen local economies.
This honor highlights Chariton Valley’s commitment to expanding fiber connectivity and acknowledges the dedication of community leaders who have worked to ensure Brunswick’s economic vitality while preserving its rural character.
The award application, submitted by Cara Engelbrecht, Brunswick R-II School District Superintendent, and Paula Burkhart, Library Board President, Chariton Marquee Staff and PWSD2 Clerk, showcased how high-speed fiber internet is transforming the community:
- Local businesses now offer online ordering and live video sales.

- Home-based entrepreneurs serve clients worldwide, including a resident who returned from Tokyo and continues global remote work from Brunswick.
- Brunswick R-II School uses digital tools to enhance learning, and young graduates are applying technology to modern agriculture.
- Most importantly, Brunswick is reversing rural population decline and showing signs of sustainable growth.
