Fall 2011 Sun Outage Predictions

Sun outages take place every year during the spring and fall when the sun passes behind a satellite. During these mini-eclipses, energy from the sun is captured by your earth station causing degradation in the signal. You may experience anything from slight signal degradation to complete signal loss. The severity of the outage depends on your location and type of earth station equipment.

The outages during this cycle will be gradual and slight on the first and last days of the cycle, reaching a peak during mid-cycle when the sun is located directly behind the satellite. Exact dates and times of these outages depend on your geographical location and satellite viewed.
