Position Available:  Wireless Technician

Job Description:

The Chariton Valley Family of Companies, a leading telecommunications provider, has a full time opening in Macon, MO for a Wireless Technician. The Wireless Technician will be responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of the wireless infrastructure including GSM, CDMA, 700 MHz and UMTS cellular, wireless voice/data systems, and microwave systems.  He/She will be required to investigate trouble and alarm reports, monitor DC power plant maintenance and backup generator systems, and monitor key performance data reports and take corrective action to ensure continuity of service. This individual will be in a rotation for on-call duty.

Job qualifications include knowledge of Radio Frequency Communications in the 700 MHZ to 1900 MHZ spectrum.  He/She must have a basic understanding of DC power and possess a working knowledge of technical installation and repair of wireless communications equipment.  The Wireless Technician must have the ability to understand and interpret technical documentation, have basic keyboarding and computer knowledge in Microsoft Word and Excel, and the ability to learn company software within a minimal time frame. He/She must be able to lift up to 100 pounds.

2017 Internship with Chariton Valley

Location

General work location will be Huntsville, Missouri with occasional trips to Macon, MO

Student Requirements

Must be a student in a technical field that would qualify them for work in Chariton Valley Network Operations. This will typically be IT, computer science, MIS, or telecommunications.

Must attend a Missouri post-secondary school.

Must be a student in good standing with a B grade average or better.

 

Schedule

40 hours per week

10-12 weeks or as per agreement

Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Optional evening hours to observe after-hours service-window work, which is common in telecommunications. Specific start and stop dates established on an individual basis.

 

Compensation

 $12 an hour, taxes withheld

Area of Internship

The internship is in Operations, which has broad responsibility for delivery of all telecommunications products offered by Chariton Valley. Interns will be exposed to all aspects of the department, including:

 

Executive: Ability to listen in on select conference calls and staff meetings lead by the Director of Operations. 2-3 days job shadowing with the Director and one-on-one meetings to learn about the industry and the role of the Director.

 

IP Network Analyst: 2-4 weeks spent assisting IP Network Analysts.

Data entry, configuration reviews and audits, setup and teardown of lab equipment. Intern will be able to participate in meetings.

Hands-on configuration of systems that do not directly impact operational status of facilities, but that are important to our ability to monitor the network, such as Solarwinds. Intern will learn about carrier-grade IP networks, EMS, L2 and L3 and more.

 

CLEC Technicians: 2-4 weeks spent assisting CLEC network technicians.

Learn about Hosted PBX systems. Assist in configuration of individual customer configurations. May have opportunity to work with lab equipment and configurations.

Data entry for special projects.

Observe select meetings and conference calls.

Will learn about SBCs, VoIP, IPTV, ISP and more.

 

ILEC Technicians: 1 week spent observing ILEC network technicians.

Learn about power and cooling facilities. Visit COs while technician perform generator testing. Will learn about TDM, FTTH, DSL and more.

 

IT Services: 3-5 weeks observing and assisting ISP helpdesk, corporate helpdesk, and computer repair store.  Data entry to assist in various projects. Will work directly with ISP customers. Perform some server administration duties. Help with various projects. Work directly with ISP customers. May be assigned web page development and other special projects.

 

Outside Plant: Spend 1-2 days with outside plant to see physical facilities.

Will see FTTH, DSL, and perhaps observe fiber splicing.
